Scholarships Allow Students to Pursue Passion, Earn Degree
Mississippi College students continue to be grateful for the scholarships available to them at the university. Many of these scholarships have been provided by donors who have made planned gifts to Mississippi College. These gifts directly impact our students who could otherwise not be able to attend or complete their education.
Two of our students, Jonathan Hestres-Rivera and Emerson Carmean, express the appreciation they felt in receiving their scholarships.
“When I look back at my time at Mississippi College, the first thing that comes to mind is how much the Lord has provided for me while I have been here. One of the major avenues of the Lord's provision during my time here at MC was finances. When deciding where to attend undergrad, my parents made it clear that I would be on my own financially, aside from minimal contributions from them if I was struggling. Also, knowing I did not want to take out a lot of student loans, I was looking for a university that offered good scholarships for me to attend.
“I visited MC on a preview day and fell in love with the campus; however, I thought that I would not be able to attend due to finances. After scholarships for in-state schools in Florida came in, I realized that the scholarships offered by Mississippi College made it more affordable for me to go to college here than in some schools in-state. The scholarships provided me with the opportunity to go to the school I wanted to attend.
“There have been times when I thought I would not be able to cover my tuition for a semester or that I would need to take out more loans but God always found a way to provide. Whether that provision came through institutional scholarships or MCares, Mississippi College always helped me when I needed it. I cannot even put into words how truly grateful I am for the scholarships that have been provided to me during my time here at MC. I know that without these scholarships, my being here would not have been possible.”
—Jonathan Hestres-Rivera (Senior)
“I am very grateful to have received the Charles and Fay Herbst Memorial Scholarship and the Lucian and Montez Hill Memorial Scholarship. These scholarships mean more to me than just the money. They give me the opportunity to pursue the career I am passionate about and they give me the chance to have a future in our society. I will always be able to thank these individuals for giving me this generous financial support and the opportunity to accomplish many things. I am so thankful for these scholarships and the ones who have given them to me.”
—Emerson Carmean (Freshman)
